Mansion Resident Profiles: SCENEUK 5 Year Anniversary
With the new school year upon us SCENEUK are back for another term of youth theatre excellence! We sat down with Co-Founder, Matt to look back at their time at the Mansion over the years as well as their plans for the future.
SCENEUK gives a unique experience for children ages 4-18. They offer a professional, yet supportive and fun atmosphere every Sunday, culminating in full scale musical productions performed in London’s West End. “We’re fresh off the back of an amazing production of School of Rock at the Shaw Theatre in King’s Cross and can’t wait for another year teaching at the Mansion.”
Although SCENEUK have multiple teaching locations across London, Beckenham and the Mansion in particular hold a special place for Matt and the group’s other Co-Founder, Mark – “I personally am from Beckenham, and Mark and I have taught together in Beckenham for 10 years now! When we created SCENEUK in 2020, we posted on social media for ideas of a location and were recommended the Mansion. 4 years later and we have never looked back. It is the most perfect location for our first and flagship school.”
Both Matt and Mark are professional performers and they both maintain careers alongside running SCENEUK. Matt has performed in West End, touring and international musicals and most recently was the director of Nickelodeon’s ‘Paw Patrol’. Mark works as a professional dancer, performing alongside international artists such as Ellie Goulding, Pixie Lott, Take That, The Pussycat Dolls and Kanye West. “Alongside our performance work, we have always had an interest and passion for training the next generation. We wanted to create a school that focused on the things we enjoyed ourselves as budding performers. We now use our experience and connections within the industry to bring a fun and unique atmosphere to SCENEUK, alongside talented, passionate and experienced teachers.”
When the pair created SCENEUK they had a vision of a distinct ‘location’ being integral to each school. “Beckenham Place Mansion is a perfect example. We wanted SCENEUK to not just be a place our students enjoy visiting, but their parents also. The café, the markets, and the park in general offer a beautiful Sunday morning for the whole family.”
2025 marks SCENEUK’s 5 year anniversary with Matt and Mark already plotting for their special anniversary production. ” The Mansion provides the perfect backdrop for our work and we are so grateful to have made it our home over the past 5 years – here’s to the next 5 and an amazing 2025!”
SCENEUK workshops are hosted at the Mansion each Sunday with upcoming term dates running Sunday 15th Sept – Sunday 1st Dec. You can find all info and booking details here.
